I bet my school was even smaller! Heck, my college only had around three hundred students!

If I do have the tape, it'd be somewhere in my parents' house, mixed in will all the other stuff that I'll never be able to go through til I'm done with grad school and can (hopefully) afford a place of my own, large enough for the detritus of my life...

I'm glad to have jogged someone else's memory-- just like the Wikipedia jogged mine. This is something different than the crowd-sourcing of historical memory... It's the crowd-sourcing of personal memory... a method of reminiscing with strangers, strengthening our connection to our own past through other's recollections and artifacts...

It's an interesting phenomenon.

The first half of this entry reads as if it were my own experience in the mid nineties! Unfortunately for me, I knew no other people who liked ska music (I went to a very small, rural-ish school), and did not have the pluck or resources to make it to the nearest Big City to find any shows. I, too, wrote a paper on the history of ska in the early days of college. I remember doing some of my research on the internet as well. By 1995/6 I had already gotten in the habit of looking at people's hobby sites, many of which were mini-histories of their particular passions, some of them even provided bibliographies for the curious. At the time it felt natural to start research on the internet, though I thought of it as a first step to leading me towards books. How amazing that you were able to record that interview. Do you still have it?

Thanks for jogging my memory... I wonder if I still have my history of ska paper. Mine did not include many original thoughts, though it would be fun to read again and reminisce.

*goes to put on an old ska mix tape*
